Boombox, 2020-2021

This boombox housing utilizes the aesthetics of Egyptian curios boxes, a craft that is fading due to issues with tourism, a global pandemic, and day-to-day economics. The piece houses a variety of audio recordings that are inspired by the recent curfews in Cairo, Egypt that were initiated to subside Covid numbers. The hustle and bustle of Cairo was replaced with an eerie silence, and a communal longing for the noise of one of the most dynamic cities in the world.
